Thomas Esteban Lawrence explores how clothing made from natural materials can better accommodate the human body and develops garments that improve the wearer’s comfort and freedom of movement.
Working directly on the body in motion, he studies its changing shape and the space it needs across different movements and positions. He uses these observations to develop garments that accommodate movement without relying on material elasticity or synthetic stretch blends.
His work has been recognised for its innovative approach to pattern cutting and movement-led garment development. In 2026, he was a finalist for the Graduate Fashion Foundation’s Pattern Cutting Award, presenting his work to the final judging panel in London. He was also shortlisted and interviewed for Belstaff’s Cloudmaster 3.0 competition in Manchester.
He was an invited speaker at the 2026 Innovative Pattern Cutting Conference. His work was selected as the official conference visual across all its communications and promotional materials.
His long-term ambition is to minimise the interference between people and the products they use, creating comfortable, intuitive and long-lasting designs that improve everyday experience.
